Welcome to my world!

Since I was a child growing up in East Tennessee, my dreams and visions have always been to be a minister--to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, to write, to do photography and watercolor art, and to travel and enjoy the great outdoors.

I have done all of those things and more.

As I grew older and was able to travel across the United States, the diverse cultures and socio-economic climates made me more aware of the power of the spoken word and of images to bring change into people’s lives and situations.  The results were spending many years ministering in the inner-cities and in the backwoods of Appalachia.  From that diversity, I learned a lot about people, about how they lived—many times just existed---and how their pasts influenced their families’ futures.

So I became highly opinionated from all of the situations and conditions that I saw while working for Fortune-500 companies and being on a first-name basis with powerful people from business, politics, and “more interesting” professions.  And at the same time, I was ministering in churches in the cities, the suburbs, and the country, seeing and experiencing the lives of socialites and skid row.

Now that I have returned to my beloved Southern Appalachian Mountains from all of those travels across America, I have settled into making sure that what I have seen, what I have experienced, and what I have learned about reality is shared with those who can make a real difference in people’s lives and circumstances.

As a minister I am obligated by The Holy Bible to PREACH the Word of God.

As a writer, I am determined to share the stories and tales that I have collected from forty years of traveling and living in such diverse places as Hazard, Kentucky and Metro New York City.

As a media professional, I have the platform to tell the stories of people’s successes and sufferings, and to describe what succeeds and what fails in helping build peoples’ lives and replace despair with hope.

I have always been opinionated and spoke my mind.  In fact, my dad once told me, “Son, some people open their mouth to stick their foot in, but sometimes, I think you only open your mouth to exchange feet!”

Well, join me on this page and on radio, television, and in print as I continue to do just that:  OPEN MY MOUTH!!!
